An outstanding example of how to play brushes in one of the most imaginative piano trio cuts I've heard in years. Drummer Vernel Fournier is a master player. Enjoy. David Story. This blog is an autoethnographic experiment in learning: learning by ear verses learning from instruction books. My thesis is this: that which we struggle by ear to learn will "stick better" and be easier to recall in performance because it engages our auditory, kinetical, and visual senses differently. From ear to hands, not eyes to hands is a different cognitive path.

The In Crowd Ramsey Lewis Drum Chart from Original Recording
Points of interest:
- The clapping part from the audience.
- The fills are inconsistantly played, this was a live recording.
- The part is simple, therefore it stays out of the way of the pianist.

In the Mood Glen Miller 1941
- All high hat
- Cowbell at mm. 75 second time. Different masterings emphasis this differently. The version on Google Play Music has the pattern I've notated. The YouTube video has a different version of the cowbell solo. Long live the cowbell.
I'm learning this in anticipation of an audition Feburary 5 2020 for a big band dance chair as drummer.

What I do with these charts?
I practice them. You might create your own blog and see what happens. He apparently worked for JoJo Mayer.

killer joe drum beat
Sometime the drummer play high on all four beats during solos. Skip beats start showing up during solos, but he keeps it real simple.
